Homemade Butter in a Stand Mixer

Homemade Butter in a Stand Mixer

Making homemade butter is easy! All you need is heavy cream, ice water, and salt.

Let heavy cream sit at room temperature for 30-60 mins. This helps encourage separation.

After a few minutes it will start to look like whipped cream. Keep going!

After a few more minutes it will start to get grainy and separate. Keep going!

When it looks like this, it’s done. It’s butter!

Pour the buttermilk into a separate container for later. You can use it for baking!

Rinse the butter in ice water until the water runs clear.

Once the water runs clear, smush the butter in the bowl to press out any excess buttermilk.

Wrap butter in paper towels and squeeze out any excess liquid. Repeat rinsing and squeezing until water runs clear.

For a compound butter, add the butter back to the mixer and include whatever herbs or seasonings you want!
